Ms. Betty Stone Whiteside, age 72, of East Ellijay, GA passed Saturday morning, May 13th, 2017 at the Gilmer Nursing Home.
Ms. Whiteside was born August 14th, 1944 in Ware Shoals, SC to her late parents Joseph and Margaret Evelyn Saxon Stone. She was a founding member of Hope Lutheran Church. Betty graduated from Ware Shoals High School, Class of 1962, earned a BA from Winthrop College, and went on to earn her master’s degree from the University of Illinois. She worked as an accountant for Georgia-Carolina Petroleum. She is preceded in death by her sister Caroline Stone.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Whiteside, daughter and son-in-law, Carri and Douglas McClure of Ellijay, GA; grandsons, Zack Stone Elliott and Nathaniel McClure, both of Ellijay, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Sylvia Stone of Waterloo, SC; niece, Sherylan Batson of Waterloo, SC; nephew, Chris Stone of Columbia, SC; several great nieces and nephews; special friend Heather Thomas also survives.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM on Wednesday, May 17th, 2017 from the Hope Lutheran Church with Pastor David Smedley officiating. Graveside interment will follow at 1PM on Thursday, May 18th, 2017 in the Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Greenwood, SC.
Family will receive friends from 4pm until 8pm on Tuesday, May 16th, 2017 at the Logan Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hope Lutheran Church, 3295 Old Highway 5 South, Ellijay, GA 30540 in memory of Ms. Whiteside.
