Obituary of James Woodring

Mr. James Edward Woodring, age 86 of Ellijay, GA passed Thursday, November 23rd, 2017 at his residence.

Mr. Woodring was born June 5th, 1931 in Ellijay, GA to his late parents Noah Franklin and Artie Lee Davis Woodring.  He graduated from Ellijay High School, Class of 1948, and served honorably in the United States Air Force.  Ed went on to spend most of his career working for the Georgia Northeast Railroad as a trackman.  He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon in March of 1976 and served as church treasurer for many years.  He is preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Goble, and brothers, Waldon Woodring and David Woodring.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean Tankersley Woodring of the home in Ellijay, GA; daughters and son-in-law, Beverly and William Cantrell and Jan Stahl, all of Ellijay, GA; grandsons, Fred Stahl, III and Brian Stahl; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Wayne Sluder and Betty and David Raikes, all of Ellijay, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene and Carolyn Woodring and Grady and Lillian Woodring, all of Ellijay, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 3pm on Sunday, November 26th, 2017 from the New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Jess Posey, Rev. Steve Jones, and Rev. Billy Cantrell officiating.  Music and vocals will be by Kendra Davenport, Edgar Land, William Cantrell and the New Hope Baptist Church Choir.  Pallbearers will be Fred Stahl, III, Brian Stahl, Mark Woodring, Greg Martin, Alan Davenport, Keith Logan, Brent Land and Ronnie Prater serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Lloyd Sumner, Gene Wimpey, Jerry Milsaps, Andy Key, Tom Hall, Tony Nelson, Phillip Pankey, Alan Hall, Charles Corbin and Jim Davis.  Graveside interment will follow at 11:30am on Tuesday, November 28th, 2017 at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.

Family will receive friends from 2pm until 8pm on Saturday, November 25th, 2017 at the Logan Funeral Home.
