Larry Joseph Clayton, Age 72, of Ellijay, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 20, 2020. Larry was born February 9, 1948 to his late parents Rev. Arvil Johnny “AJ” and Elizabeth Ruth (Mooney) Clayton in Elberton, GA. Larry loved the Lord, his Family, his church, and his country. He as a graduate of North Gwinnett High School, class of 1966. He never met a stranger and was always the same every time you saw him. Larry was a member and deacon of East New Hope Baptist Church. He honorably served in the United States Army, Military police and was a Vietnam veteran. He worked at the Ellijay Telephone Company 41 years before retiring in March 2011. He is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Gus Stover.
A private family funeral service will be held on Monday, August 24th, with Rev. Jerry Clayton, Rev. Billy Cantrell, Rev. Shane Duggan, Rev. Steve Keener, and Rev. Justin Hensley officiating. A private military graveside interment will follow at East New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Carl Clayton, Curtis Clayton, Chris Clayton, Brady Clayton, Brandon Clayton, Freddie Vick, Randy Ponder will serve as pallbearers.
He was a loving husband to his wife, Lorene Stover Clayton for 52 years, of the home in Ellijay and was a wonderful daddy to his children, Joseph and Michelle Clayton, Jeffery and Melissa Clayton, Jamie and Tracie Clayton, all of Ellijay, GA, Jacob and Kayla Clayton, Canton, GA, brothers and sister-in-law, Rev. Jerry Clayton of Ellijay, GA, Lloyd and Lucille Clayton, Buford ,GA, sisters and brothers-in-laws, Lana and Roy Carder, Brenda and Steve King, all of Buford, GA. His mother-in-law, who always loved him like her son, Rebie Stover, a host of nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 23rd, 2020 from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Logan Funeral home. Flowers are being accepted or donations may be made to East New Hope Church in care of Brady Clayton, PO Box 25, Marble Hill, GA, 30148 in memory of Mr. Clayton.
