Mr. John Gordon Corkedale, Jr., age 86 of Ellijay passed on Thursday December 10th, 2020 at Northside Cherokee Hospital. John was born Newburg, NY to his late parents John G. Sr. and Marie Corkedale. He was a career US Airforce veteran. He served 14 years in Strategic Air Command under General Curtis Lemay as crew chief for the B-47 Bomber. Following SAC, he served with TAC and spent a year in Vietnam, and retired after 20 years as MSgt. Following his military service, he worked with Sears and retired following 20 years of service. John was a member of the Cartecay Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years, Jean Gautreau Corkedale and daughter, Deborah Jean Martin.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday December 16th, from the Cartecay Baptist Church with Rev. Chad Hall and Rev. Tom Jordan officiating. Music and singing will be by Mrs. Susan Hochkins and Mrs. Joan Bradford. A military graveside interment will follow in the Cartecay United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard. John Rapson, John Slim, Bobby Bradford, Rich Emkey, Whit Garnett, John Elder, Haven Thomason will be serving as pallbearers.
John is survived by his wife of 24 years, Sarah Lyle Corkedale of the home, daughters and son-in-law, Donna C. Bridges of Pooler, GA, Rebecca & Chris Harder of Taos, NM, Kimberly Anderson of Gainesville, GA, Melinda A. Garnett of Dawsonville, GA, son, Thomas Anderson of Valdosta, GA, grandchildren, Samantha Reed of Alaska, Sarah Peavy of New York, NY, Ashley Bruce of Dahlonega, GA and Whit Garnett of Dawsonville, GA., and several great- grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the service at 2:00pm on Wednesday December 16th at the Cartecay Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cartecay Baptist Church at 118 Riverwood Road Ellijay, GA 30536 in memory of Mr. Corkedale.
