Obituary of Johnny Payne

Rev. John Wesley (Johnny) Payne, age 81, of Ellijay, GA passed on Thursday, December 17, 2020. He was born October 10, 1939 in Blue Ridge, Georgia to his late parents William and Thelma (Higdon) Payne. Johnny was active in the church community including serving as a minister at Dover’s Chapel. Johnny worked for many years in the timber business and many will remember him as being the one always on the Skidder. Johnny is preceded in death by his son Kendall Payne. Survivors include his loving wife of over 60 years Betty Sue (Goss) Payne, of the home, daughter and son in law, Toni and Olen Newman of Marietta, GA, son Jamie Payne of Ellijay, GA, son Stacy and wife Danielle Payne also of Ellijay, GA and son Kevin Payne-Owens and husband James Payne-Owens of Atlanta, GA. Also survived by grand children Miranda Wruck and husband Jay, Amy Davis and husband Jeremy, Abby Simmons and husband Joseph, Josh Payne and wife Kimberly, Samantha Ingle and husband Eric, Aubrey Mitchell, Logan Payne, Landon Payne, and Marissa Payne-Owens as well as great grandchildren Gavin Wruck, Ansley Wruck, Kensley Payne, Della Ingle, and Kendall Shay Simmons. Sister Mildred and husband William Maynard of Ringgold, GA, sister Coletta Payne Tatum of Chatsworth, GA, and brothers Hoyt Payne and wife Pauline and Steve and wife Belda of Ellijay, GA, Jerry Payne and wife Geneva of Chatsworth, GA. Several other nieces and nephews also survived. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 21, 2020 at 11:00 am at the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with graveside services following at Old Faith Baptist Church. Rev. Steven Keener, and Rev. Eugene Davis and music by Angie Reed. Flowers are being accepted. Family request that mask be mandatory.
