Obituary of Osa Patrick REV
Retired United Methodist minister, Rev. Osa Edward Patrick, Passed away December 23, 2010 in Jasper, GA., at Mountain Health Care. He was 89 years old. He was born in Hazel Green, KY., in 1921 to his parents, Noah Patrick and Southie Caroline (Taulbee) Patrick. They preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Rev. Patrick moved to New Albany, IN and was stationed with the Civil Conservation Corp in Henryville, IN. during World War II. In 1945 he married Lillie Mae Richert of New Albany, IN. Lillie worked many jobs and contributed greatly to the union. She worked while he was in school to become a minister. When he was appointed to churches, Lillie worked right along side of Rev. Patrick performing secretarial duties and supported him and the churches in many ways. Later, she went back to school at the age of 46 to become a nurse. In 1953, at the age of 32 and with only an 8th grade education, he went back to high school at Mt. Carmel High School in KY, graduating in 1955. He attended Asbury College in Wilmore, KY graduating in 1959 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He attended Emory University, Atlanta, GA. graduating with a Master of Divinity Degree from Candler School of Theology. A member of the South Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church, he was pastor to many churches in Southern Indiana and also in or near Ellijay, GA. He and his wife made many dear friends over the years as they served each parish. He was affiliated with Gates Chapel United Methodist Church, Ellijay, GA. at the time of his death, of which he served as their pastor in the early 1960's. He and his wife moved back to GA. after his retirement from the ministry in 1984. He was a member in good standing with the Masonic Lodge #193, Morristown, IN. Rev. Patrick is survived by his spouse of 65 years, Lillie Mae (Richert) Patrick, Jasper, GA., formerly of Ellijay, GA and New Albany, IN. Also surviving are the couple's three children and their spouses: Donald E. (Vicki) Patrick, Ellijay, GA; Linda S. (John) Turner, Brownsburg, IN.; and Rebekah M. Shirley. Indianapolis, IN. Rev. Patrick had nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, with the seventeenth great-grandchild due in February. Funeral service will be 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 29th from the Logan Funeral Home and Chapel, Ellijay, GA. Burial will be at the Gates Chapel United Methodist Church immediately following the service. Family will meet with friends beginning at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 28th.
