Mrs. Lois James Newton, age 88 of Ellijay, GA passed Wednesday evening, February 7th, 2018 at the Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, GA.
Mrs. Newton was born March 11th, 1929 in Ellijay, Ga to her late parents William Benjamin and Ethel Paralee Ray James. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and worked as a mender for World Carpet. Lois enjoyed gardening and flowers. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Lawrence Newton, son, Stevie Newton, sisters, Claudia V. McVey and Audrey Fouts, and brothers, Carl, Ray, and Max James.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Yvonne Newton Land of Dalton, GA and Brenda and James Gibson of Chatsworth, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Marie Newton of Ellijay, GA; Nine grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren; sisters, Oleeta Sanford of Ellijay, GA and Shirley Sams of Florida; brothers, Coy James of Ohio and Dencil James of Florida; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM on Saturday, February 10th, 2018 from the Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. David Nicholson and Rev. Jerry Banks officiating. Music and vocals will be by Bill McVey, Ronald and Linda Hyde and Thelma Champion. Graveside interment will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery with Tracy James, Jimmy Bennett, William Newton, Michael Corbin, Tim Newton, and Willie Southerland serving as pallbearers.
Family will receive friends from 5pm until 9pm on Friday, February 9th, 2018 at the Logan Funeral Home.
