Lt. Col. Leo Emil Omernik, USAF Ret., age 85 of Ellijay, GA passed Wednesday evening, May 23rd, 2018 at the Parkside Nursing Center in Ellijay, GA.
Lt. Col. Omernik was born December 1st, 1932 in Polonia, WI to his late parents, Ernest and Agnes Berna Omernik. He was a member of Nativity Catholic Church. Leo entered the United States Air Force in 1954, and went on to serve as a B-52 pilot during Vietnam. He graduated from the University of Tampa with a bachelor’s degree in business, was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, and flew safety checks for the Federal Aviation Administration.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marlene Elizabeth Mullin Omernik of Blue Ridge, GA; daughters, Laurie Sheridan and Kim Quiett, both of Ellijay, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Gregory Scott and Donna Omernik of Herrin, IL; grandchildren and spouse, Cassandra and Darren McDaniel and Joshua Omernik; great grandchildren Cameron McDaniel and Hayden Quiett; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Tom App of Ogdensburg, WI and Elmae and Fran Passineau of Weston, WI; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joey and Cyndy Omernik and Stanley and Jackie Omernik, all of Stevens Point, WI; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Memorial services will be held at 2pm on Friday, June 1st, 2018 from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Allan Tarr officiating. Music will be by Mrs. Kim Myers. A military graveside service will immediately follow in the Logan Funeral Home Pavilion with military graveside rites performed by the United States Air Force.
Family will receive friends from 1pm until the service hour at 2pm at the Logan Funeral Home Chapel.
